Capitol Collegiate Academy announces first school lottery

Capitol Collegiate Academy, a new college preparatory free public charter school serving the students of South Sacramento, will hold a public lottery on April 14 for its inaugural class of kindergarten students. The school will draw names for 60 slots, from a pool of over 80 applicants. The event should draw over 100 people.

Applications are presently being accepting on a rolling basis. All further applications will be added a post lottery waitlist.

Capitol Collegiate’s mission is to prepare students to compete, achieve, and lead in high school, in college, and in life. Capitol Collegiate was approved in May 2010 by the SCUSD School Board.

Capitol Collegiate will offer an extended day and extended year program for students. The curriculum covers over three hours of literacy and over two hours of math, plus science, social studies, and enrichment every day. Kindergarten students will receive individualized, full-day instruction using the small student to teacher ratio of 15:1.

Capitol Collegiate’s program is based off of the highest performing charter schools in the country and has received significant support throughout the Sacramento community through community partners, over 250 teacher applications, and strong family interest in the program.

The public lottery will take place on April 14, 2011 at 7:00pm at the Lemon Hill Boys and Girls Club, located at 5212 Lemon Hill Avenue, Sacramento 95824.
