2 dead, 2 injured in South Sac shooting

A shooting at a South Sacramento restaurant left two people dead and another two injured early Friday morning. The shooting happened just after 1 a.m. at the Vientiane Cafe at the intersection of Florin Road and Power Inn Road.

One of the dead have been identified as 32-year-old Thao Xang.

Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies received multiple 911 calls reporting multiple shots fired at the cafe. Of the two injured victims, one was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, the other is being treated and is expected to survive.

Witnesses told investigators there was a fight between two groups inside the cafe and it spilled outside into the parking lot, where the gunfire happened. Deputies believe the incident may be gang related.

"A group came that wanted to cause some problems, and did," Tony Turnbull, Sacramento County Sheriff's Department spokesman, said.

Business owners worry about what this could mean for their clientele.

"We do lose the business," Singh Hermander, who works at Cigarettes Cheap Forever, said. "People don't want to come here because nice people don't want any trouble. They go somewhere else."

Antonio Melgoza owns El Sol Bakery, next to the cafe where the shooting happened. He said he has been the victim of a burglary as recent as a few days ago.

"We hope that this place is going to be better but it's looking worse," Melgoza said.

No one has been arrested in connection to the double homicide.
